Patrick Sargent

NEWMAN 2006 GRADUATE

After graduating, Patrick took a year off working in the Whitsundays as a porter. He then went to TAFE on the Gold Coast to attain a Diploma of Accounting.  He  enjoyed the course so much he went on and attained a Bachelors Degree in Commerce, majoring in Accounting at Griffith University.

Patrick is now a qualified Chartered Accountant and Tax Agent and is CEO of a company he founded called POP Tax which is a FinTech startup.

Word processing in Microsoft Word (document preparation), Microsoft Excel (creating and using spreadsheets), customer service, use of a range of business technology and equipment, safety in the workplace, communication skills and basic accounting.

The skills learnt in this course can be utilised across a range of careers. From a tradie starting up or running his own business, through to working in an administration role for a large company.

No. These are two very separate subjects. Business Services focuses on the skills used for a career in Business, it also provides real life experience through the mandatory workplacement. Business Studies is a more theory based course about the management of operations, marketing, finance and human resources in large businesses.

Yes. If you specialise in Business Services in Year 12, you can include the Certificate III Business Administration Certificate in your Early Entry to University applications. The Early Entry application is not available for all universities. Please refer to the latest UAC book or website for details.

Yes, If you specialise in Business Services in Year 12 you can recieve, not only a Certificate II in Business, but also a Certificate III in Business Administration.
