Industry Based Learning (IBL)
Welcome to Industry Based Learning, also known as IBL!
The purpose of this course is to enable students to demonstrate the additional knowledge, understanding, skills, values and attitudes they develop from on-the-job training. This course helps in addressing the challenges faced by students who concurrently undertake the Higher School Certificate and formal industry training.
One of the big differences of completing a HSC at Newman, is the compulsory Workplace Learning attendance. This is where students have the opportunity to develop skills for their VET competencies by attending an organised workplacement one day per school week and on some block weeks. The IBL course enhances the management and student engagement in this workplacement program.
By engaging in on-the-job training, students develop knowledge, understanding, values and attitudes about enterprise, work and industry and a range of employability related skills, valued within and beyond the workplace. Students will gain experiences that can be applied to a range of contexts including work, study and leisure which can assist them in making informed career decisions.
